A Family Affair

His art looks deceptively simple, but behind it all is a great talent that deftly guides the quick lines and dashes of color.

It's safe to say Abla's talent has come to fruition in this exhibition, arguably one of his best to date. In one painting, a father, mother and daughter are posing for a picture. The man is dressed in a galabeyya, jacket and turban, marks of a well-to-do merchant of the 1930s and 1940s. The lady is dressed in a long dress; she is modest yet unveiled. In the middle is their child, standing on a chair to be on the same level as the parents. It is all fairly simple, yet what Abla says about emotion is true: You feel the bond between the three; although they are not looking at each other, the love is there, revealed in their eyes.

The background of this painting is overwhelmed with huge floral motifs, and at one point, one of the flowers blends with the woman, becoming her hair accessory.

Obama and Progressive Change

And I already hear it coming so I will be clear, I DO NOT BELIEVE OBAMA IS PROGRESSIVE. I do not believe that he will create change. What I believe is that he can be an agent of change by bringing in political idealists, and then they will almost inevidably become disillusioned by the 2 corporate parties and either demand real change through the current system or join me and others in the Green Party.

Fans make an early exit as new boss takes over

Although there were no rousing renditions of Nigel Pearson's red and white army,' those present did get behind the side for the first 30 minutes.

Some positive play and evidence of a willingness to close the opposition down gave encouragement to the supporters.

Yet the mood markedly changed thanks to a horrific two- minute spell.

When Plymouth's Peter Halmosi slammed in his side's first, after 31 minutes, following Andrew Surman's errant pass, the restlessness that has become all too familiar at St Mary's this season reappeared.

The home support was swiftly taunted with cries of There's only one Paul Sturrock' from the Plymouth faithful.

Just two minutes later, some fans decided they could take no more.

As Jim Paterson curled home past a bemused Kelvin Davis, a cacophony of boos rang around the ground, followed by the incredible sight of a stream of fans heading for the exits.

Election rout rattles Japanese investors

While gridlock continues, equities will languish," he added. The Japanese currency showed resilience in the face of Abe's election drubbing. The dollar slipped to 118.52 yen in Tokyo morning trade, down slightly from 118.60 in New York late Friday. But analysts warned of potential turbulence ahead. "Political instability and economic reform policy backlash are likely to be negative for the yen," predicted Barclays Capital analyst Toru Umemoto. If the (central) bank skips an August rate hike, it will also be negative for the yen, added Umemoto. As well as the election result, investors were unnerved by fresh losses on Wall Street where fears of a housing slump and a potential credit crunch pushed the Dow Jones index down 1.54 percent on Friday. Since taking office, Abe has appeared to focus more on constitutional and educational reform than on the economy compared with his market-friendly predecessor Junichiro Koizumi.

Codemasters Unveils New MMO: Jumpgate

The next MMO that'll try to take a chunk out of the World of Warcraft phenomenon is coming to you courtesy of Codemasters. Today, Codemasters unveiled a space-based MMO called Jumpgate, which is scheduled to ship in late 2008. Jumpgate is being developed by the U.S.-based MMO developer NetDevil.

Codemasters Online also confirmed that they will be the exclusive publisher and operator of this next-generation MMO across Europe as they work with NetDevil to bring the game to North America.

Whereas World of Warcraft focuses on fantasy-based action, Jumpgate will focus on space combat that allows players to choose from one of three playable nations. Embarking on their space adventure, players will be able to trade valuable commodities, take part in dangerous outer-space raids, meet and play with friends and, basically, live out their dreams of becoming an elite hero or infamous space pirate.
